New Years in Lancaster County

I know I said I'd post yesterday, but my food coma got in the way... so here is the post that I started writing and didn't post!
It is a common tradition in Lancaster County to eat pork & sauerkraut on New Years Day to bring you good luck for the year ahead. I detest sauerkraut- the taste and the texture, but it was one of my dad's favorite foods. This year I went with my friend, Janet, and her family to a firehouse meal. I'm not sure if this is just a local thing or if they do this everywhere, but local fire stations will have meals sometimes throughout the year for fundraisers. You pay a certain amount for a ticket and then when your number is called, they'll take you back and you get served family style, all you can eat. To make it even better, the food is homemade by Amish people. That was $15 well spent.

Even though I don't like pork & sauerkraut, I ate some today in honor of my dad... And we'll see if the good luck thing holds true or not.
Happy 2019!
